Top 10 moments of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
Cape Verde stole the show
The Islanders had been written off prior to the tournament, despite thwarting giants Cameroon from the party in South Africa. They were obviously the competition’s pushovers, but after their first two games it was evident that the Blue Sharks were on course to serve some humble pie to their critics. The debutants, led by an air traffic controller-turned coach, swam straight to the quarter-final and they missed the last four by a whisker. Lucio Antunes’ men were tough customers for an experienced Ghana side, who eliminated them. The Cape Verdeans left South Africa 2013 with heads held high and added some ember to the whole tournament.
