Mbappe, who was born in Paris, scored Monaco’s first and third in a comfortable win at Stade Michel d’Ornano, which means his side enjoy a three-point advantage over the defending champions with eight matches of the season remaining.

Marquinhos would be delighted to team up with him in the future.

Rabiot: I regret playing vs Barca

“It’s doing very well at Monaco and I hope that our leaders are following him – he’s a player who can make the difference and has great quality,” he said.

“He’s a very good player. At his age, it’s not easy to put in successive performances in Ligue 1 that are so strong.

“He’s gone into the France squad, he’s in great form, he’s scoring goals and will be a very important player for France and Monaco.

“He’s got a great future and I hope that he continues to work hard and does not stop because there’s still a lot for him to learn.”

Mbappe is already up to 12 goals for the season, despite starting only 11 top-flight fixtures for Leonardo Jardim’s side.
