Kotoko chief Kyei confirms Pollack will stay on as coach

Asante Kotoko coach Steve Pollack is on the verge of signing a new deal with the club following his heroics on Sunday against Hearts of Oak in the Ghana FA Cup, according to the club's executive chairman Dr. Kwame Kyei.

Pollack joined the Porcupine Warriors in mid-season following the departure of Zdravko Lugarusic, guiding them to finish fifth on the Ghana Premier League log.

Kotoko thrashed rivals Hearts of Oak 3-1 in Tamale on Sunday to win the FA Cup, ending their run without a trophy since 2014.

“He wasn’t bad at all. Steve Polack will stay,” Kyei told reporters.

“He will be offered a contract extension soon and definitely will stay with us for at least the next season,” he added.

Kyei also revealed that each Kotoko player will receive $1,200 as a special bonus for the victory over their rivals and charged them to win the Caf Confederations Cup next season.

''I thank the team and supporters for helping us win the FA Cup trophy over Hearts yesterday. I promised to give the players $1,200 and I will deliver it as expected of me,'' he said.

''Each player will get the amount for winning the cup and I hope this will motivate them enough to continue their good work next season.

''It is my wish that Kotoko will participate in the Caf Confederation Cup next season after our absence in several years and win it also to make everyone happy," he added.
