ISL 2017: Delhi Dynamos bolster midfield by signing Matias Mirabaje

Delhi Dynamos have announced the signing of Uruguayan attacking midfielder Matias Mirabaje for the upcoming Indian Super League season.

Having added some steel to their midfield by signing Brazilian defensive midfielder Paulinho Dias recently, they have once again dipped their hands into the Latin American talent pool to add some bite to their midfield.

Matias Mirabaje, who has represented Uruguay in the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2009, will link up with the team from India's capital now. The 28-year-old last plied his trade for Peruvian club Union Comercio.

Mirabaje, known for being a physical number 10 blessed with pace, started his career with Racing club de Montevideo before representing the likes of San Lorenzo (Argentina) and Brazil's Atletico Paranaense. It is to be noted that he won the Copa Libertadores and finished runners-up in the FIFA Club World Cup 2014 with San Lorenzo, losing to Real Madrid in the final.

Delhi Dynamos have taken a number of bold decisions approaching this year's ISL, having retained no players going into the Indian Player Draft.

Upon completing his transfer, Matias said: "I’m very happy with the new club and I can’t wait to wear the jersey of Delhi Dynamos. It will be a great challenge for me in a league that is growing every day and is bringing in great players.”

The franchise will be coached this season by Spanish coach Miguel Angel Portugal as they look to finally reach the summit clash of the IMG-Reliance owned tournament. The head coach will be hoping Mirabaje plays a significant role in their quest.
