Inkoom joins Al Merreikh in a one-year deal

Ghana defender Samuel Inkoom has signed a one-year deal with Sudanese giants Al Merreikh despite initially opening talks with city rivals Al Hilal.

The 28-year-old arrived in Omdurman earlier this month and was close to joining the champions but the deal fell through following a disagreement on fees.

Inkoom has been without a club for a couple of months following Fifa's one-year ban from all football related activities after he failed to settle outstanding fees owed to his former agent.

"I'm happy that everything has been successful here. I'm excited with the opportunity given me and will do my best to help the club," said Inkoom.

"We hope things will run smoothly for the club in both the local league and Caf Champions League," he added.

Inkoom has become the latest Ghanaian to represent Merreikh after Augustine Okrah left in 2016 to join Hilal.

He was part of the Black Satellite squad that won the 2009 Fifa World Youth Championship in Egypt and also represented Ghana at 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cup.
