EXTRA TIME: African stars mourn Fiorentina captain Davide Astori

The continent's stars joined the rest of the world in paying tribute to the Italy international who passed away on Sunday morning

2017 African Player of the Year, Mohamed Salah led a team of African stars including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ahmed Hegazi, Andre Ayew, Keita Balde in expressing their condolences following Davide Astori’s tragic death at the age of 31.

The defender was found died in his hotel room in Udine on Sunday as the Viola prepare for their scheduled Serie A match with Udinese, which was later called off with all other Serie A fixtures.

Following the confirmation of his death by Fiorentina, the African players unite in mourning the Italy star who made 14 international appearances for the Azzurri.

Former Lazio forward and Senegal international Keita Balde wrote on his social media, "Rest in peace #RIP. Send condolences to the #astori family."
