Eight people died and at least 49 were injured after clashes between fans prompted a stampede at the Demba Diop Stadium on Saturday.

A fight broke between the police and rival fans at the end of a League Cup final between Stade de Mbour and Union Sportive Ouakam and prompted the police to respond by using tear gas, which led to panic and a stampede.

As spectators tried to leave the stadium, a wall collapsed under their weight and eight people died and dozens were injured.
