Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah 2Goal Ghana

Appiah was wrong to snub local players ahead of friendlies, says Arhinful

Former Ghana international Augustine Arhinful says he disagrees with Kwesi Appiah's decision to snub local players ahead of the Black Stars' international friendlies against Japan and Iceland on May 30 and June 7 respectively.

No local player was included in the 23-man roster named for the two games which will form part of Ghana's preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“A job has been given to the national team coach in the person of Kwesi Appiah to build the team. In as much as Felix Annan has played so well so far, the coach feels that these are the two goalkeepers he has to invite and I disagree,” Arhinful told Joy FM.

“I would have loved to see some local players in there because this is the time and the essence of playing friendly matches is to test players and see how ready they are for the upcoming or impending matches.

“'I cannot also force the coach because there is a goal that has been set for him by his bosses to win the next Africa Cup of Nations so let give him all the support. However, he must consider the local talents too,” he added.

Goal understands that the Black Stars began preparations for the friendlies on Tuesday in Accra, with only six players partaking.
