Afcon Stat Pack: All you need to know about Togo vs Congo DR

Our good friends at Opta have complied all the numbers and stats you need to assess the teams’ chances ahead of today’s Afcon Group C clash at Stade de Port-Gentil.

-   This is Togo’s eighth AFCON. They have only reached the knockout stages once in their previous seven participations; it was in 2013 when they went out in the quarter-finals.

-   Meanwhile, this is DR Congo’s 18th AFCON participation. They have won it twice (1968 as Congo-Kinshasa, 1974 as Zaire).

-   DR Congo are unbeaten in their three AFCON encounters with Togo (W2 D1). Their last meeting in the competition was in the 2006 group stages, with DR Congo winning 2-0.

-   In fact, Togo have won only one of their 11 fixtures against DR Congo (D3 L7), it was in their last encounter in September 2013 during a World Cup qualifier (2-1).

-   Togo manager Claude Le Roy is taking charge at his ninth AFCON tournament, with a sixth different nation (Cameroon, Senegal, DR Congo, Ghana, Congo, Togo). He’s made it to the knockout stages in seven of his eight previous tournaments, winning it in 1988 with Cameroon.

-   DR Congo manager Florent Ibengé is taking charge of his second AFCON as manager. In 2015, he took his home nation to third place.

-   Junior Kabananga has scored two goals from just two shots for DR Congo at AFCON 2017 - this is one more goal than Togo have as a team (1) despite Claude Le Roy’s side attempting 20 shots overall.

-   DR Congo have only attempted 10 shots in total and four shots on target in their two AFCON 2017 matches so far, but have still picked up four points (W1 D1 L0).

-   Emmanuel Adebayor has attempted six shots for Togo at AFCON 2017, but is yet to score. Since 2006, he’s scored just once in eight appearances (690 minutes in total) at AFCON tournaments.

-   The Leopards need just a point in this match against Togo to secure progression to the knockout stages. The last edition in which they qualified from the Group Stage was back in 2006, when they got knocked out in the Quarter Final.
