Acheampong, Abbey named GPL award winners for July

Elmina Sharks new coach Yaw Acheampong and Hearts of Oak captain Thomas Abbey have been adjudged Ghana Premier League best coach and player of the month of July respectively, following their incredible run during the month.

Acheampong, who replaced Kobbinah Ammisah after Sharks failed to pick a win in five games, won all four matches in July including two away victories against Liberty Professionals and Ashanti Gold.

Acheampong beat off competition from Great Olympics coach Tom Strand and Evans Adotey of Medeama, both of whom recorded two wins and two draws.

Abbey on the other hand, was picked ahead of Berekum Chelsea forward Stephen Amankona and Elmina Sharks' posterboy Felix Addo.

The Phobians star scored four goals in three games, picking two man-of-the-match awards in the process. His influence helped Hearts close in on log leaders Aduana Stars as only four points are separating them with six matches to end the season.

Acheampong and Abbey will receive a Nasco Elite Q5 smart phone.
