The Chicago Fire attacker reflects on the recent exhibition games against El Tri and the Stars and Stripes

Ghana winger David Accam says he is happy to have returned to the national set-up for recent games against Mexico and the USA, despite heavy criticism of his output.

Having been ignored for the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon early this year, the Chicago Fire playmaker earned a recall for the double-header of friendlies.

The 26-year-old came on as a second half substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Mexico before being hauled off at half-time in the 2-1 reversal to the USA after a disappointing showing.

“It was OK,” Accam said about his time with the Black Stars, according to CSNChicago.

“To be fair, we lost both games.

"For me, I was happy to be playing with the national team also and I saw some of my friends so it was good.”

In the form of his life at club level, the Chicago Fire attacker has netted 10 goals in 17 Major League Soccer outings thus far this season.

With seven matches less, the Accra-born has equalled his best season goal tally since joining Fire in 2015.

However, uncertainty hangs over his inclusion in the upcoming MLS All-Star game.

“I don’t know [if I will be part],” he said.

“For me, I’m playing well. I’m doing well for the team and if I get in, it’s a bonus.

"If I don’t, nothing changes. I think I’ve done enough to get in, so I’ll just wait and see what happens.”

In each of his first two seasons with Fire, Accam scooped both the club's Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer awards.
