The Ghana team doctor says his hands are clean so far as the injury woes of the striker are concerned and the player must be blamed for failing to heed advice

Black Stars team doctor Adamu Baba has finally broken the misery surrounding striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom’s injury during the 2013 Afcon tournament.

The 19-year-old did not play any part in Ghana’s Afcon campaign in South Africa due to an injury that surfaced before the competition which eventually ruled him out of the entire tournament.

Boakye-Yiadom sustained the thigh injury at the team’s camp in Abu Dhabi but failed to recover during the competition and missed all the matches the Black Stars played at the 29th edition of the Nations Cup.

Dr. Adamu whose medical credentials came under scrutiny by the public after the competition told the press in Accra on Friday that the Sassuolo player is to blame for his injury woes.

Dr. Adamu added that Boakye-Yiadom instead of resting to gain full fitness decided to participate in a table tennis match with some colleagues which aggravated his injury.

“Boakye-Yiadom sustained an injury on the last day of our training and when we arrived in South Africa we sent him to a Hospital for treatment and asked him to rest,” Dr. Adamu said.

“Boakye-Yiadom rested for the date given but incidentally on the night to him being declared fit he played table tennis all night and that got his leg swollen again.”
