2013 Afcon: John Paintsil out for six weeks over hamstring injury

The guardsman will spend the next six weeks nursing injury that was sustained during Ghana’s semi-final clash with Burkina Faso
Ghana defender John Paintsil will be off the pitch for at least six weeks after a hamstring injury in the Black Stars’ semi-final clash with Burkina Faso.

The Hapoel Tel Aviv guardsman could not last the entire duration of the encounter forcing coach Kwesi Appiah to make an early substitution in a game in which Ghana lost 3-2 on penalties.

The team doctor, Dr. Baba Adams, told the Ghana FA website: “He suffered a hamstring injury. We expect him to probably be out for up to six weeks with his hamstring.”

Paintsil has therefore been ruled out of Ghana's third-place play-off in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations against Mali on Saturday.
