The Fenerbahce defender believes destiny will smile at them in their quest to make history in the 2013 Afcon final on Sunday as the Super Eagles get set to clash with Burkina Faso

Nigeria captain Joseph Yobo is 100 per cent confident that together with his team-mates they will make history on Sunday when they face the Stallions of Burkina Faso in the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles cruised to a 4-1 victory over Mali on wednesday in Durban to reach the final for the first time in more than a decade, while Burkina Faso needed an extra time and a penalty shootout to get past favourites Ghana in Nelspruit.

Both teams met at the start of the group stages of the competition and shared the honours with a draw.

However, Yobo, who had so far worn 92 caps for his country said is their time to win the trophy.

“First of all, we have a lot of respect for the guys who won this competition in 1994, they are heroes back home. We cannot compare ourselves to them. We want to make our own history, we have our destiny in our own hands and I believe we can win this tournament on Sunday. We are capable, we have what it takes to win,” Yobo told Cafonline.

The Super Eagles will play against Burkina-Faso in Sunday's final at the South African National Stadium in Johannesburg. It will be Nigeria's seventh final as they seek their first title since 1994. On the other hand, it will be Burkina Faso's first, as they bettered their best showing in 1998 when they reached the semi-final on home soil.
