Black Stars' failure to lift 2013 Afcon trophy should be probed - Prez Mahama

The president of the land has ordered that Ghana's failure to win the ultimate in South Africa should be looked into

The President of the Ghana John Dramani Mahama has charged the Ghana FA to find out the cause of the Black Stars' inability to win the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in South Africa, but has assured them of government support.

The Black Stars went to the tournament as one of the pre-tournament favorites but failed to end the nation’s three decades wait of the continental trophy after their shock penalty shoot-out defeat to Burkina Faso in the semi-final.

President Mahama said in his address at a short ceremony to mark the relocation of the seat of government from the Osu Castle to the Flagstaff House that although the team showed resilience in their semi-final game, his government will take keen interest to rebuild the Black Stars.

“This government will work with the GFA to carry out a post mortem on what happened and take the corrective measures to restore the Black Stars to their place of glory,” Mahama said.

Ghana will face Mali in a third place play-off  on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth.
