The last line of defence of the 1998 hosts says he was happy to see his side race ahead of Ghana in the semi-final, but has to console his Ghanaian better half

Burkina Faso goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye, who plies his trade in Ghana, said his Ghanaian wife was in tears after the Stallions thwarted the Black Stars from reaching the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Coach Paul Put’s side sent the four-time African champions going to fight for a third place against Mali after beating them in a 3-2 penalty shootout on Wednesday.

“When the match was over, I was very happy, but after a while I was a little sad because I play in Ghana. My wife is not happy that we beat Ghana, but I will try and get her over here for the final on Sunday.”

The Asante Kotoko shot-stopper said it will be a delight to win the 2013 Afcon trophy as they get set to square off with the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday.

“It is historic for us to have beaten Ghana and gotten to the final because we have not done this before. We reached the semifinals in 1998 but couldn’t even win the bronze medal. Now we are going to the final against Nigeria and it will be a new experience for us all."
