Gyan: We have no option than to win bronze at 2013 Afcon
The Ghana captain has urged his team-mates to put the current disappointment behind and focus on their last game at the 2013 Afcon with Mali
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has urged his team-mates to put their semi-final defeat behind them and look ahead to securing bronze for the Black Stars. The four-time African champions will now have to settle for a third place play-off after going down to the Stallions of Burkina Faso 3-2 on penalties at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Wednesday.
A win for Mali on Saturday will mean the Eagles clinching the third-place play-off at the fourth time of asking, their best placing since losing the 1972 final.
Gyan who did not take part in the spot kicks for Ghana believes it is time for the team to focus on bowing out on a high in Port Elizabeth.
“There is a third-place coming on and definitely we would be down but we would psyche ourselves up and make sure we go for the third-place,” the Al Ain striker told Ghanafa.org.
The Black Stars now have to wait for another two years to end their trophy drought.
