The Espanyol midfielder has been extremely immense in the Black Stars’ setup and bagged a double against surprised package Cape Verde to book a semi-final spot for the four-time African champions.
A very solemn-looking Wakaso told Metro TV he wants to dedicate his goals to his late father due to the role he played in his life. He said the goals did not come to him as a surprise because prior to the quarter-final clash he had promised his team-mates he will hit the back of the net.
“I knew I was going to score against Cape Verde,” Wakaso said. “That has been my prayers. Today [Saturday] has been the happiest day for Ghanaians. I thank all, especially the northerners. I thank Ghanaians for their effort and prayers.”
Wakaso declared: “Insha Allah [God willing] we’re bringing the cup to Ghana.”
The Black Stars will play one of Togo or Burkina Faso after both sides meet on Sunday.
