Cape Verde coach Lucio Antunes is optimistic they are winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations following their giant-killing spree right from the qualification stages to the tournament itself.
Ahead of the Blue Sharks’ quarter-finals clash with one of the tournament’s favourites Ghana on Saturday, coach Antunes has served notice they are no pushovers hence the Black Stars should sit up.
“There is a big difference between before the tournament and now,” Antunes said at a press conference. “Initially we were very confident, but now more. We are now more confident and stronger as well. We think we are going to the final.”
He said: “Zambia won the last tournament because they were the strongest. We are going to win the tournament, that’s why we are here.”
Antunes noted no team can stand their way, despite the underdogs tag hanging on their necks in this tournament. The Islanders are participating in the competition for the first time and they have being spurred on by team-spirit.
“Our team is very serious. We have been working a lot for this tournament. We know ourselves and we’re ready for any of teams in this tournament. We very confident and we’re here to win.”
