The president tweeted to urge the team to go for the 2013 Afcon cup and he believed they had what it takes to win it
The President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the Super Eagles after they defeated the Royal Antelopes of Ethiopia by 2-0 on Tuesday in the last game of Group C at the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg which saw them qualifying to the knockout stage. In a tweet by the presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, Jonathan urged the team to go for the cup and he believed they had what it takes to win it.
“The elimination stage is very crucial but I believe match after match the cup will arrive in Nigeria after 19 long years,” he stated.
Nigeria's Chelsea winger Victor Moses scored twice in the last 10 minutes through penalty kicks after the west Africans had failed to break down a very resilient Ethiopian side.
The Super Eagles thus clinched second place in Group C and will face the Elephants of Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals.
