2013 Afcon: We are halfway through - Kwesi Appiah
The Black Stars' man on the touchline says his charges are just warming themselves up for the real showdown at the continent's biggest football gathering
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has patted his players on the back, and says the Africa Cup of Nations is in for a real showdown after the four-time African champions booked a quarter-final clash with Cape Verde.Appiah's side went through as leaders of Group B after a resounding 3-0 victory over Niger in their Afcon clash at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Monday.
Asamoah Gyan, Christian Atsu and defender John Boye produced clinical finishes to give Ghana the emphatic win and the Black Stars stay in Port Elizabeth for the last eight clash on Saturday,
Ghana are chasing their fifth continental title after a 31-year wait and Appiah believes the Black Stars can do better.
“We are halfway through and can do much better,” the former Ghana international said in a post-match interview.
“Niger were a good team. They defended well. My players stepped up their performance and that resulted in Niger not coming out as they are used to.”
