Atsu, tipped as one of the youngsters to shine in the continental showpiece did little to impress against the Leopards of DR Congo.
The 20-year-old lasted 56 minutes of Ghana's first group game against coach Claude Le Roy’s side which ended 2-2 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Coach Appiah said he has spoken to the Porto player and he believes that can serve as a panacea for moral booster.
“Atsu didn't have a good game yesterday [Sunday], but for a player like him this is his first tournament and it happens but I believe as the tournament progresses people will get to see the real Atsu,” Appiah said.
