Kwadwo Asamoah at left-back is a gamble - Odartey Lamptey
The former PSV player says Kwadwo Asamoah’s talent is being wasted at the left-back position at the 2013 Afcon
Former Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey says the unfamiliar left full back position for Kwadwo Asamoah might cause the Black Stars the Afcon title in South Africa.
The Juventus winger struggled in his new role in Ghana’s 2-2 drawn game with DR Congo on Sunday, but helped the team with his first Nations Cup goal and assisted in Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu’s goal when he went into an advanced position.
Asamoah’s left-back position has drawn debate among local pundits as Claude Le Roy’s side exploited that flank time and again to threaten Ghana's defence.
Lamptey, who formerly played for Anderlecht, believes the technincal handlers should give Asamoah the free role to operate in other to get more attacking options.
“Kwadwo asamoah playing left-back is a problem, if you watch the match against DR congo, they were exploiting his side and Ghana werejust lucky not to have conceded an early goal,” the former Aston Villa player told Goal.com Ghana.
“If you have a player who can unlock defense, you don’t have to keep him at left-back position when you have other players in the team who can play."
