The AC Milan midfielder who was not named in Ghana's Afcon squad due to injury has thrown his support behind the team, saying they have what it takes to win the title

Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari is backing the Black Stars to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa.

The 28-year-old was not selected for the tournament due to a knee injury that kept him inactive for six months.

However, the AC Milan player is encouraging his colleagues to go all out for the title.

“All Ghanaian football fans will be hoping that this will finally be our year, none more so than myself," the former Inter Milan player disclosed on his website.

“I’m sorry that I can’t be there in person to support my friends, my team mates and my country but I will be following them every step of the way.

“The team will have to be at their best because we know that winning the African Cup of Nations is not an easy task."

“Of course we’ve won it before, and we can win it again in South Africa – of that I am sure,” the left-footed midfielder said.

“We are among the favourites and we have quality players in our squad who are capable of winning as a team.

“I wish the national team luck and will be praying that they can bring the trophy home,” the 2010 Uefa champions league winner added.
