talkSPORT, the world’s biggest sports radio station, has teamed up with SportsYapper, the UK’s fastest growing social media application for sports fans, for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. talkSPORT is an official broadcaster for the tournament and SportsYapper will be the station’s exclusive social media partner for the world’s biggest sporting event.
SportsYapper, a free, purpose built, mobile application for iPhone, iPad, Android and desktop, gives fans a place to banter with their mates and other like-minded fans before, during and after the action.
The app’s UK launch and partnership with talkSPORT has proved hugely successful – SportsYapper is already consistently ranked in the top 10 free sports apps for both the App Store and Google Play. talkSPORT and SportsYapper started working together in March 2014, when SportsYapper first launched in the UK. Together, the two companies make matches even more thrilling by giving talkSPORT listeners and all fans a social environment exclusively for sport.
Commenting on the partnership, Liam Fisher, talkSPORT Programme Director said: “Just as talkSPORT lets fans celebrate and commiserate their beloved teams so too does SportsYapper. Our common goal makes the two brands a perfect strike-force to allow supporters to get emotional around sport.
The launch has been a huge success, utilising talkSPORT’s superb pundits including Stan Collymore and Robbie Fowler throughout an enthralling end of season and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.”
Eric Goldstein, CEO of SportsYapper, said: “We are excited about the response fans in the UK have had to SportsYapper, validating our belief that fans should have a dedicated space in social media to share their passion for sport with other like-minded fans. We are also delighted to extend our partnership with talkSPORT and look forward to providing fans with a great way to share the excitement of the World Cup wherever they are watching.”
talkSPORT presenter and former Liverpool and England striker Stan Collymore, a brand ambassador and supporter of SportsYapper, said: “I use SportsYapper because it provides a place for fans to interact with each other, follow their teams and check into games to see goals and progress as it happens. I love it!”
talkSPORT is also running a regular SportsYapper feature on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast as well as a feature ‘Any Other Business’ during the station’s Drive show hosted by Adrian Durham and Darren Gough. In addition, the station’s sister magazine Sport includes a ‘Week in Yapps’ article.
