Fifa, the governing body of world soccer, and electronics giant Sony Corporation have unveiled plans to utilise 4K technology at the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil.
Sony, an official Fifa partner, will work with the organisation on the production of an official 4K tournament film, which is set to feature highlights from a number of matches. The film will then be distributed online by Fifa.
The Japanese conglomerate plans to film three entire matches in 4K, one round of 16 tie, a quarter-final and the final, highlights of which will feature in the official film.
Additionally, fans will be able to enjoy promotional 4K clips at Sony booths and Fifa Fan Fest events throughout the 64-day tournament. The trailers will also be available at Sony showrooms around the world.

We are excited by the prospect of working with Sony to incorporate 4K technology in our production plans. 4K will propel fans around the globe into a whole new viewing dimension and it marks the dawning of a new era in the broadcasting of sport.”
