The KwaZulu-Natal Province, the City of Durban and IEC in Sports International Events & Communications will unveil details of a new international tournament and world-class sports development centre at the Soccerex African Forum, which takes place at the city’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on October 1-2.

The Durban International Under 19’s Tournament aims to attract the world’s top youth teams, thus giving players from the Sports Development Centre an opportunity to display their skills in the global shop window. The tournament will also provide international television broadcast coverage for the city and province. The new Sports Development Centre seeks to identify and nurture football players from the age of six, with the aim of producing quality players who are capable of becoming professionals and ultimately South African national team players. The launch of the new Sports Development Centre at the African Forum provides football stakeholders with the first occasion to learn about the multiple commercial opportunities the centre offers for a wide range of industries such as construction, turf specialists, stadium technology, IT, medical suppliers and recruitment consultants, as well as the chance to secure both national and international sponsors for the centre.

“Durban, KwaZulu-Natal welcomes all Soccerex delegates to our beautiful city once again,” said eThekwini Municipality Mayor, Cllr. James Nxumalo. “We are delighted that we are in a position to make major announcements around the Durban U19 International Football Tournament as well as a world class Sports Development Centre at this year’s African Forum. These two projects will enable our city and province to increase our sports tourism market while also giving our players a chance to compete favourably with their international counterparts.”

The Soccerex African Forum will bring 1,000 senior football decision makers together with businesses from across the continent and the world for two days of learning, networking and business opportunities to unite the business of football in Africa.
