Deschamps not fixated on France beating Spain
The Bleus coach believes that the Georgia clash will be crucial in weighing up their chances of finishing top of their World Cup 2014 qualification group
France head coach Didier Deschamps has insisted that fixating on their next meeting with Spain is futile, and instead is focusing on their game with Georgia.
Les Bleus face Germany in a February friendly before recommencing their World Cup 2014 qualification campaign against the eastern European nation on March 22.
They are set to face la Roja to be played just four days after that latter game, Deschamps believes a win against Georgia is essential to send them into the mouth-watering Group I clash on home soil.
"I’m looking at events chronologically,” the former Olympique de Marseille boss told Foot Mag. “On February 6, we have a prestigious friendly match against Germany.
“It will allow us to catch up after nearly three months since our last meeting, and prepare for the game against Georgia [March 22] that precedes our Spain [March 26] match.
“If we want to present ourselves in the best condition against the Spaniards, beating the Georgians will be imperative.
“Saying this may seem tired, but Georgia hung on against Spain [until the end]. For me, that game is the most important.”
France sit second in Group I on seven points, behind the World Cup and European Championship holders on goal difference, despite having held them to a 1-1 draw on their own turf in 2012.
