Abidal to get medical all-clear in February

The defender is currently undergoing examinations in hospital as part of the treatment following his liver transplant, but he remains on course to return to action soon
Eric Abidal is expected to get his medical all-clear in the first half of February and could resume first-team action for Barcelona within a month.

The French defender resumed regular training in December after a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a liver transplant, and is now set to make his comeback in the near future.

"Abidal will receive the medical all-clear in the first half of February and will be a Barcelona player again," Juan Carlos Garcia Valdecasas, the doctor treating Abidal, told Cadena SER.

"Eric is keen to play games again, and it now all depends on Barcelona's selection criteria rather than on his medical condition.

"His attitude has played a big role in his recovery. He really has an extraordinary and very positive attitude."

The club have since confirmed that the defender will spend three or four days in hospital as part of his continued rehabilitation.

Abidal will spend time at Hosptial Clinic in order to undergo "examinations of the development of the transplant", according to the club's official website.
