The Spain international started the match against Betis but was forced off the field of play at the Benito Villamarin inside just 10 minutes after pulling up unopposed.
According to the club, scans have since revealed that Fabregas tore the biceps femoris in his left thigh and subsequently faces up to a month out of action.
Barcelona are currently 2-1 to the good against the Andalucians, but the match will be more remembered for Lionel Messi, who broke Gerd Muller's record of 85 goals in a calendar year.
