Only a few Ghanaian players abroad saw their names on the score sheet over the weekend. Goal Ghana brings you a wrap of their performance
Michael Essien was absent in the Chelsea match day squad when they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the St James Park by Newcastle. At the Craven Cottage, midfielder Derek Boateng was an unused substitute for Fulham who lost 3-1 to Manchester United. Emmanuel Frimpong was once again overlooked by Arsene Wenger as Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-0 at the Emirates.
Also in the Championship, Albert Adomah played 85 minutes for Middlesbrough who lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Jeffrey Schlupp also played 90 minutes for Leicester City who went away to beat Watford 3-0 at Vicarage Road.
At the Stadio Ennio Tardini, wing back Kwadwo Asamoah played 90 minutes for Juventus who pipped Parma by a lone goal. Midfielder Afriyie Acquah was an unused substitute for the homeside. At the San Siro, Sulley Muntari lasted for 69 minutes for Milan who continued their poor form by losing 2-0 to Fiorentina. Joseph Alfred Duncan played the last 12 minutes for Livorno who beat Atalanta by a lone goal.
In the Serie B, forward Mase Welbeck was an unused substitute for Brescia who drew 3-3 with Pescara away. Left back Masahudu Alhassan also lasted 90 minutes for Latina who beat Reggiana by 1-0 at the Stadio Communale Domminico.
Jordan Ayew also played full time for Marseille and scored in the 19th minute as they drew 1-1 with Rennes away. Andre Ayew was not in the Marseille match day squad. Fully recovered Jonathan Mensah played 69 minutes for Evian who beat Toulouse by two goals to one at the Parc des Prince.
In the Ligue 2, striker Kwame Nsor was introduced into the game in the 58th minute as league leaders Metz beat Istres 2-1. Dennis Appiah also played 90 minutes for Caen who were beaten 2-1 by Lens.
Winger Frank Acheampong played the last five minutes for Anderlecht who beat OH Leuven by three goals to one at Constant Vanden Stock. Former Heart of Lions player Abraham Kudemor was not in the Leuven team. Enock Adu Kofi was an unused substitute for Club Brugge who lost by two goals to nothing against Cercle Brugge in the Brugge derby. Bernard Yao Kumordzi played full throttle for Genk who posted a 3-2 scoreline on relegation-threatened Mons at Stade Charles Tondreau. Elsewhere at the Argos Oil Stadion, former Fetteh Feyernoord trainee Abdul Yakinu Iddi came into the game in the 77th minute as Mechelen drew 2-2 with Zulte Waregem.
Both Daniel Opare and Mama Kwesi Asare played the entire duration for their clubs as Standard Liege beat Gent 1-0.
In the Bundesliga, Kevin-Prince played 87 minutes for Schalke who beat Hertha Berlin 2-0 at the Olympiastadion whiles in the Bundesliga II left-back turned midfield anchor Baba Abdul Rahman played full throttle for Greuther Furth who walloped Erzgerbirge 6-2 away.
In the Eredivisie, Christian Atsu’s Vitesse Arnhem won their away game against Ajax. Vitesse scored a late goal in the 90th minute to win by 1-0 which takes them to the first position in the league. Atsu played 83 minutes before he was substituted.
Youngster Shadrach Kwesi Eghan scored in the 23rd and 66th minutes for FC Twente who drew 2-2 at home with NEC. Striker Fred Benson scored in the 14th minute and was sent off in the 85th minute for a second bookable offense as his side PEC Zwolle went to the Phillips Stadion to draw 1-1 with struggling PSV.
Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Johan Kappelhof also played 90 minutes for Gronningen who drew 3-3 with Roda JC Kekraade. Jeffrey Sarpong played 69 minutes for Nac Breda who were thrashed 3-0 by bottom-placed RKC Waalwijk
Striker Ebenezer Assifuah Inkoom scored in the 3rd minute and was substituted in the 68th minute as FC Sion beat Luzern 3-0. Winger Ishmael Yartey lasted full duration for the winning side. Samuel Afum was also an unused substitute for Young Boys who beat Grasshoppers by a lone goal.
Midfielder Mubarak Wakaso played 46 minutes for Rubin Kazan who recorded a goaless draw away with Rostov. Striker Abdul Majeed Waris was also an unused substitute for Spartak Moscow who lost by three goals to one at home to Lokomotiv Moscow.
In the Swedish Allsvansken, Liverpool target Daniel Amartey played full throttle for Djurgarden who drew 1-1 with Osters. Yussif Chibsah Alhassan came into the game in the 59th minute whilst Godsway Donyoh was an unused substitute.
Also, Yakubu Abubakari played 90 minutes for Atvidabergs who drew 2-2 at home with BK Hacken, former Medeama and Gomoah Fetteh Feyernoord midfielder Emmanuel Dogbe warmed the bench for the home team. Nasiru Mohammed and Reuben Ayarna were not on the bench of Hacken.
Swedish forward of Ghanaian descent Robin Quaison scored for AIK who beat Helsingborg 2-1. Moro Ibrahim played full throttle whilst Ebenezer Ofori came into the game in the 79th minute. David Accam was replaced in the 57thminute whilst Ema Boateng was also introduced in the 62nd minute for Helsingborg.
Striker Benjamin Fadi was not in the match day squad of champions Malmo FF who beat Syrianska 3-1.
Striker Mahatma Otoo played full time for Sogndal who lost 3-1 to Honefoss. Youngster Gilbert Koomson was introduced by Sogndal in the 57th minute.
Goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey was in post for Stromsgodset to draw with Tromso. King Osei Gyan was an unused substitute for Viking who lost by two goals to one to Rosenborg.
