The Blues captain is not happy with his output and that of his colleagues that has resulted in poor results for the Ghana Premier League side this season
Berekum Chelsea captain Abdul Basit has said he takes part of the blame for his team’s abysmal performance against New Edubiase in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
Chelsea’s only victory this season came against King Faisal and are yet to record a second win after seven games in the campaign.
The 2010 Ghana league champions have endured a tough start this season and clearly showed sluggishness in Sunday’s game against New Edubiase, only managing a draw.
Basit told Radio XYZ that his side did not play well enough and also believes that his lack of leadership on the field of play reflected on the final score line.
“I think we just didn’t play well enough on the day. The whole team did not show character and that affected us on the field of play,” Basit said. “I will also personally take the blame for our performance and I say that because my performance was not the best on the day.”
He added: “As a leader, my play could have motivated the team but that was clearly not there yesterday. The team has to work harder to achieve its goals and I am sure we will work towards that in our subsequent matches.”
