The Ghanaian defender born in France is sure the Black Stars will make a big impact at the summer Mundial, despite being paired with US, Germany and Portugal
French-born Ghanaian defender Jerry Vandam believes the Black Stars can sail through the group stage of the World Cup.
Vandam, who plays for Belgian Pro League side Mechelen, is convinced that Germany and Portugal are the favourites to get to the next stage, but still insists Ghana should not be written off as the west Africans can cause an upset.
“Ghana is in a tough group in which Germany and Portugal are the big favourites,” Vandam told Nieuwsblad.
“And the United States cannot be underestimated. I still believe in the chances of Ghana. In a world there are always surprises. Moreover, Ghana still offers a good selection.”
Vandam added: “If the Ghanaians survive their group, perhaps they will meet Belgium. And who knows both countries can meet each other. At the World Championships in 2010, Ghana was almost the first African country to reach the semi -finals. Ghana will survive the group.”
Vandam is yet to get a Black Stars call-up.
