Ayew: Ghana have a foot in Brazil

The winger says Ghana have not reached the 2014 World Cup finals yet and the real victory party will start after the second leg in Cairo on November 19
Olympique Marseille midfielder Andre Ayew has warned Ghanaians to celebrate in moderation because Ghana is not yet in Brazil, despite the 6-1 spanking of Egypt.

The African giants were trounced on Tuesday at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in the first-leg play-off for the 2014 World Cup.

An elated Ayew noted that although Ghanaians deserve to party over the “unexpected victory” that should not be done “as if that is the end of the campaign.”

“We have a foot in Brazil,” the 2009 Under-20 World Cup winner told reporters. “Everything is in our hands now and we have 90 more minutes left.”

“Hopefully, we’ll go to Brazil. I was so delighted with the support because the stadium was full,” Ayew added.

On his part, captain Asamoah Gyan described the outcome as an “incredible performance” because he “didn’t expect six goals.”

The Black Stars will be travelling to Cairo on November 19 for the return leg.
