New signing Emmanuel Hayford struck twice in the second half to give the Phobians a vital away win and a good start to their 2013-14 campaign
Former champions Accra Hearts of Oak beat New Edubaise United 2-0 in Bekwai in a week one fixture of the 2013-14 season.
Both goals came in the second half through new signing Emmanuel Hayford who got the brace in less than three minutes.
The game was very close in the first half but the Phobians returned from the break with extra determination and their hardwork eventually paid off.
The win extends Hearts of Oak’s dominance over New Edubaise in the last year after beating them in both home and away encounters last season.
Hearts coach David Duncan is under pressure to replicate the Phobians’ excellent second round campaign last season.
The former Ashgold coach joined the Phobians in the middle of the first round last season and catapulted them from relegation to the fifth spot at the end of the campaign.
Now with ample time for pre-season and supervising all the signings, the expectations are high for Duncan, and the win over New Edubaise United certainly comes in handy, especially when they are scheduled for a meeting with Kotoko next week.
Hearts of Oak, the 20-time champions, are targeting their premier league title in five seasons.
