Espanyol manager Javier Aguirre says his side wanted to sign Ghana winger Christian Atsu after during the recent summer transfer window.
The Mexican wanted to bring the former Porto player to Catalonia as a replacement for Mubarak Wakaso who left for Rubin Kazan.
Just recently, Aguirre revealed that Espanyol are yet to find a replacement for Wakaso after several attempts in the transfer market fell through.
“First I wanted Christian Atsu [then at Porto], who was the closest thing to Wakaso, it went strange, and then Chelsea beat us,” Aguirre told football Espana.
The Parakeets have already started making plans to get a winger when the winter transfer window opens.
