The Mauves and Yellows stun the Porcupine Warriors to win the FA Cup and will be representing Ghana in the Caf Confederations Cup

A late first half goal from Theophilus Anobaah was enough to gift Medeama their first major trophy in their history, dashing Kotoko’s hopes of a first ever double.

The significance of the game to both sides showed early on as obvious attacking intent was tempered with cautious defensive play from both sides. The clearest tests for either keeper in the early minutes came from distance with Joseph Gordon stinging the palms of Soulama Abdoulaye with a dipping effort from close to 30 yards away from goal. Michael Akuffo also tested Muntari Tagoe‘s handling with a sharp finish.

The clearest opportunity of the half fell to Ransford Osei, who was the recipient of a neat lay off across the face of goal from Michael Helegbe but the former youth international could not keep his effort down from six yards out. Seidu Bancey struck the top of the crossbar with a volley from inside the penalty box after the ball had fortuitously found its way to him as Kotoko piled on the pressure.

The Porcupine Warriors were made to rue failing to make the most of their chances to late in the half as Anobaah opened the scoring with the final kick of the half, powering a fierce volley into the roof of the net after he was set up by Augustine Sefa.

The second half seemed to settle into the same trend as the first with Kotoko seeing the most of the ball, yet managing to do very little with it, while the Mauves and Yellows struggled to put together consistent phases of play, resorting to speculative efforts from distance to pose a goal threat.

On one of the rare occasions that they found themselves in the box, goal scorer Anobaah wasted the opportunity with a woeful cross hybrid after exhibiting some good footwork to beat his marker.  Medeama seemed to work their way into the game after that but had to rely on the alertness of goalkeeper Tagoe to keep the Porcupines at bay with the goalkeeper looking confident every time he was called into action, despite huffing and puffing Kotoko failed to level the scores, ultimately losing out on an unprecedented double.

Medeama have clinched their first ever major trophy and will be representing the country at the Confederations Cup next season whiles Kotoko play in the Caf Champions League.
