The former Ghana Black Stars enforcer has stated that he does not care about the less money he is earning at Phoenix FC as he is feeling at home thereGhanaian midfielder Anthony Obodai has stated that he is feeling at home and happy playing for Phoenix FC in the American Professional League.
The 30-year-old midfield enforcer was signed in March this year by the club who are playing their debut season in the league and has risen to become an important part of the side.
“The thing is, I came here and I feel at home here,” said Obodai, who hopes to lead Phoenix FC to its first winning streak against Antigua Barracuda FC.
“Everybody is nice. I don’t care about the money. The little money I get here is fine with me. The people here, I mean, it’s a great city. I don’t want to move to anywhere else. And the football is not that bad,” he told azcentral.com.
Obodai said he was paid a lot while playing in Europe, even while he was at his last team, a small club in Northern Cyprus. But ever since he got a taste of playing and living in America in 2010 when he played four matches with Major League Soccer club Houston Dynamo, there was no other country where he wanted to play in. Even though he said he was being paid “small money compared to what I get in Europe.”
He added: “I was contacted on Facebook last year by an agent in Los Angeles who wanted to represent me and find me a new club I told him I wanted America and I am glad he found Phoenix FC for me.”
