Coach Duncan heaped praises on his players for exhibiting the “never say die” spirit even though he concedes to his team being nervous against the Kpando lads on SundayAccra Hearts of Oak coach David Duncan has applauded his side’s fighting spirit in their week-20 Premier League win over Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium over the weekend.
The 2000 Caf Champions League winner rallied from behind to beat the Kpando-based side by 2-1 on Sunday to maintain their unbeaten run in the second round of the season.
The win has lifted the Phobians to the 11th position in the league log with 10 matches to end the season.
Coach Duncan heaped praises on his players for exhibiting the “never say die” spirit even though he concedes to his team being nervous when they were a goal down.
“We were nervous and edgy thinking about winning the game at all cost and this served as counterproductive in the sense that we played erratically,” the former Ashgold coach said after the match.
“We went down by a goal so the players had to fight back and that could also be an aggravation of the situation that I have enumerated.
“But the best thing about all of that is that we showed character and eventually got the win to get the points needed.”
Duncan’s Hearts of Oak will trek to Obuasi to face his former side AshantiGold FC on April 14, in their next Premier League encounter.
