The former Fulham and West Ham defender has acknowledged an incident took place in his house, but has denied stabbing his wife in the eye
Ghana defender John Paintsil is daring the police to provide proof that he indeed stabbed his wife, Richlove, during an altercation at their Trasaaco Valley residence at East Legon in Accra.
The Hapoel Tel Aviv rearguard spent a few hours in police cells last Friday when news broke that he had stabbed his wife in the eye. The police confirmed the incident.
However, Paintsil’s spokesperson Ebenezer Aidoo, who acknowledged an incident occurred between the deputy Black Stars’ captain and his wife, emphatically denied the stabbing aspect of the story without giving further details. A medical report has confirmed there was an assault.
Aidoo told Accra-based Joy FM, the couple resolved the issue after the player was released on police enquiry bail and “they are living peacefully now.”
“John in his right frame of senses cannot take a knife and stab the wife,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ghana FA has also denied the police report, saying “We want to state for the record that there was no stabbing.”
The spokesperson for the Ghana FA Ibrahim Sani Daara berated the media for reporting on the issue.
He said: “I want to tell the press not to get ahead of time in reporting this matter. We (GFA) are disappointed in some members of the media for their reportage without confirming an aspect of the report claiming there was stabbing in the incident.
“Yes, there was a domestic affair and domestic incident, but there was no stabbing. Richlove is fine, John is fine, they have reconciled … So, as and when we have any further information, we (GFA) will inform you the media.”
