thumbnail Hello,

The president of the Republic has tasked the games governing body to go back to the drawing board to ensure that the Black Stars do make it to the next World Cup in Brazil

President John Mahama has tasked the Ghana Football Association and the Black Stars Management team to come up with a formidable team that would qualify Ghana to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Ghana have failed to win a fifth Nations Cup trophy after losing to Zambia at the semi-final stage in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and also narrowly missing out on penalties to Burkina Faso in the 2013 Afcon in South Africa.

Delivering his inaugural State of the Nation Address on Thursday, President Mahama said the recent disappointments by the senior national team must be addressed quickly to ensure that the four-time African champions win a trophy in the near future.

“A few weeks ago, the Black Stars were eliminated from Afcon. Almost a year ago, President Mills urged our football authorities to take penalty kicks seriously as it often is our downfall,” Mahama recalled.

“What seemed humorous turned out to be prophetic.”

The President added: “I request the FA and management of the Black Stars must go to the drawing board and come up with a formidable team to take us to the World Cup.”
