Ghana to axe uncommitted Black Stars players – Nyantakyi
The Ghana FA has served notice it will show players who are not ready to show commitment the exit to make way for fresh bloods
The president of the Ghana FA Kwesi Nyantakyi has stated that the body in collaboration with the technical team would not hesitate to drop players who lacked commitment during the just ended Afcon in South Africa.
Nyantakyi believes it is time to show some of the players in the national team the exit door after exhibiting a clear case of non commitment to duty during the team's matches at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa where the Black Stars disappointingly placed fourth.
There has been a general call by the public in the west African country for a thorough inquest into the dwindling fortunes of the senior national team in recent years which is in sharp contrast with the massive motivational packages available for the team.
The FA boss believes some of the long standing players lack the will to compete for the nation in crucial times and should be cleared for fresh bloods.
“Up to the time that we played the two friendly against Egypt and Tunisia nobody was in doubt at all about the commitment of the players but as the competition rolled out in the first two games, it was then an opportunity to assess the level of each player and this was the review we did,” Nyantakyi said.
“Some people did well in the first game and that was it. Some players played two games and then went to sleep and I think the national team deserves better than that.”
He added: “We are very excited about the performances of the young players who got the opportunity. I think that with encouragement we'll get more out of them".
Meanwhile, the game’s governing body said head coach Kwesi Appiah will continue his work despite failing to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
