Kwesi Appiah to continue as Black Stars coach - Ghana FA

The former Ghana captain will keep his job amidst high level of misunderstanding in Ghana following another 'poor' campaign by the Black Stars at the 2013 Afcon

The Ghana Football Association has confirmed Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah will stay-put.

This decision was taken after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Ghana FA on Friday morning to evaluate Ghana’s campaign at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The four-time African champions finished 4th at the tournament after a 3-1 defeat to Mali in the third-place play-off.

Ghanaians have been divided over the future of Appiah but the decision taken by the Ghana FA finally ends all the speculations.

“We reviewed Ghana's participation at this competition and are very quick to admit that the performance fell below the expectation of everyone of us,” President of the Ghana FA, Kwesi Nyantakyi said at a press conference.

“We render an unqualified apology to all Ghanaians. Very useful lessons have been drawn.

“We also looked at the coaching department led by the head coach - Kwesi Appiah. He did very well. However, we think the team could have done better.”

He added: “We are looking at strengthening the technical team to enable them do better in future tournaments.”

Appiah’s next major assignment is to lead Ghana to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The qualifiers resume next month as Ghana take on Sudan in Kumasi.
