Berekum Chelsea suspend coaches Van der Pluijm, Yussif Abubakar over training ground brawl

Power struggle seems to be taking center stage between the two technical men of last season's Caf Champions League campaigners as a near exchange of fisticuffs marred training

Berekum Chelsea have suspended indefinitely their technical director Hans van Der Pliujm and head coach Yusif Abubakar after the two men were engaged in brawls on Thursday at the club’s training facility in Berekum.

There is a rumoured friction between the two after van Der Pluijm who was elevated to the technical directorship position after his champions league exploits was brought back a month ago to his previous position as head coach. This meant Abubakar was demoted to the assistant coach's job, a supposed breach of his contract.

The two were on a routine training session this morning when a misunderstanding over whose duty it was to direct the training session ended in brawls.

“We confirm that the incident happened and we have asked the two men to step aside indefinitely until authorities decide to call them back,” Public Relations Officer Isaac Amponsah told Storm FM.

“It was a very unfortunate incident and we cannot support some of these serious issues to take over a club with such a huge respect. It will tarnish our image but we will take correctional measures to put the matter to rest once and for all.

“The authorities have tasked another assistant coach Annor Walker to take over for our subsequent training programmes as we continue to settle with the two,” Amponsah added.
