I will retire after officiating at the 2014 World Cup – Ghana referee AS Malik

The referee is aiming at officiating at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after which he will give up the whistle

Ghana’s assistant Fifa referee A.S Malik has stated that he will no longer be on the lines or at the centre of games after he has had the chance to officiate in the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

“I will retire immediately after I get the chance to officiate in the World Cup,” he told Accra-based Hot FM.

“Frankly, officiating in FIFA and Caf tournaments is easier as compared to our local league, the gadgets we use help to make things easier.”

Malik, who obtained his FIFA referee license in 2006, further urged young and upcoming referees to be well focused and dedicated to their jobs.

One of the best referees on the continent, Malik was on the lines when Algeria drew with Cote d'Ivoire as well as Cape Verde's game with Morocco in the just ended Afcon in South Africa.
