The goalkeeper who was on international assignment with the Stallions of Burkina Faso at the Afcon has been given time to rest
Kumasi Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye is likely to miss the team’s Caf Champions League game this weekend after he was given permission to overstay for one more day before he reports to Ghana after the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The Burkina Faso international is yet to join the Kotoko squad which is preparing for this weekend’s Champions League tie against Sony Nguema and might miss the encounter.
The 29-year-old who lost his father during the Afcon competition is currently in Ouagadougou to attend to a few family issues.
Soulama who has been with Kotoko for eight seasons featured in two matches for the Stallions in South Africa and will bolster the Kotoko defense during the campaign.
The spokesperson for Asante Kotoko, Listowell Yesu Bukarsson, told Goal.com Ghana the move is to allow the player enough rest and also mourn the loss of his father.
Meanwhile, Bukarsson said defender Rashid Sumaila who has missed most part of the team’s build up to Sunday’s game will have to fight hard in order to gain a place in the set up.
The 24-year-old had his first training with the main team on Monday after missing over two weeks of practice due to a trial stint in South Africa with Mamelodi Sundowns.
