The President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama is full of praise for the Black Stars after the four-time African champions beat Niger 3-0 in their final Group B match to qualify to the quarter-final.
The Black Stars who topped the group will now take on Cape Verde in the quarter-final on Saturday in Port Elizabeth.
“I think that Ghana is doing well, they had a shaky start but have warmed into the tournament well.
“I am sure that we will dispatch Cape Verde and go into the semi-final.
“We often make the greatest achievement when we don’t have a star-studded team and we all know this team is not a highly star-studded side.
“I am keeping my fingers crossed and by God’s grace, I am sure they will bring the cup home,” President Mahama told reporters at the AU summit in Ethiopia.
Ghana have not won the Afcon title since last winning it in 1982 in Libya.
