The Vojvodina centre-back believes he can shine in Italy because it is one of the best leagues that will help him to reach his turning pointTalented Ghanaian centre-back Akwasi Frimpong, who plays for Serbian giants Vojvodina Novi Sad, has stated he will be back into Italian football soon as the playing style there suits him.
He said he also believes he can shine in Italy because it is one of the best leagues in the world that will help him to reach his turning point.
“I left Vicenza for Vojvodina because of the policies in Italian Football,” Frimpong told Goal.com Ghana in Sunyani where he is on holidays. “I was not 18 years then and could not be registered for the first team as a foreigner though I was the main engine in the junior side.”
“Everything was a done deal. I was about to sign for Partizan Belgrade after excelling with them in trials and their preseason but there was a counter coup.”
He continued: “Goran Milovanovic who is now my agent had my card and he reached an agreement with Vojvodina, the agent who sent me to Partizan did not have my card so at the end I had to sign for Vojvodina.”
According to the 19-year-old defender, who won the best player in the prestigious Romeo and Juliet tournament in Italy in 2008 which also featured Black Stars duo of Richmond Boakye-Yiadom and Afriyie Acquah, he will be back in the Italian league soon as he seeks to get to the top.
“Hopefully I will be back in the Italian league one day, it is one of the best leagues in the world and the playing style also suits me.”
“My main aim is to play for Real Madrid in the next few years and I hope my form at NK Naprida where I am on a season-long loan will also help me get a call-up to the Black Satellites.”
