thumbnail Hello,

The former Heart of Lions skipper will be hoping to make the cut in Kwesi Appiah’s final 23-man squad

Ghana defender Jerry Akaminko is counting on past failures to fuel the team’s quest to end Ghana's three-decade trophy drought at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Eskişehirspor defender said he and his fellow Black Stars team-mates have set their sights firmly on the trophy.

“We are very determined to win this cup because we simply know what it will mean to this country," he told GNA Sports.

"As a team, we are ready to allow past disappointments to push us all the way so we can return from South Africa as winners.”

The 24-year-old defender who has been named among the provisional 26 players expected to begin camping in Abu Dhabi ahead of the competition is hoping for a place in the final 23 that will travel to South Africa.

“I am not desperate to be included because I know I am determined to work hard and if God approves, I will be selected."

Akaminko is yet to play at the Africa Cup of Nations and his inclusion in the final squad will make him accomplish his dream of making his debut Afcon appearance.
