SWAG condemns NDC, NPP, CPP & others for excluding sports in their agenda
The sports writers are fuming since none of the political parties in Ghana has given sports a priority in their campaign
The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has expressed their unhappiness over the failure of the various presidential candidates to include sports on their agenda in their campaign issues for the 2012 elections. In a press release issued by the body, SWAG mentioned that it was a deliberate attempt by the various flagbearers to relegate sports into the dark.
“It is not surprising that the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) did not consider sports among the issues in all their presidential debates,” SWAG president Ackah Anthony said in the statement.
“Indeed, it is obvious that for the past months, none of the political parties have been able to demonstrate clearly their policy direction for sports, a situation that could prove disastrous for nation’s sports development.”
He added: “Indeed, sports has over the years served as an instrument for peace and unity.
“It has also gone beyond entertainment to become a serious business and could be a source of employment and revenue for the nation and we dare say that there could never be an effective development without sports.”
SWAG said with barely two weeks to go for the elections, it was convinced that the political parties could do a better job by making sports part of their agenda.
